After Atlas

Emma Newman

A detective who is legally property is handed the one murder case he has every reason to refuse.

Carlos Moreno is a detective owned outright by a corporation, indentured since childhood after his father followed the departing colony ship Atlas into a cult. When the cult’s leader is found dead, Carlos is assigned the case. Newman writes surveillance from the inside out, where the horror is not being watched but having no legal standing to object, and the mystery is fair-play throughout.
