A Thief of Time
Leaphorn hunts a missing archaeologist through Anasazi ruins and a whitewater canyon.
Two backcountry pot hunters vanish in the canyon country, and Joe Leaphorn, close to retirement and grieving his wife, works the case alongside Jim Chee as it leads toward a missing archaeologist and a trade in stolen Anasazi artefacts. It is widely considered the strongest of Hillerman’s eighteen Navajo Tribal Police novels, and it was an Edgar nominee in 1989.

The scene in which Leaphorn discovers a suspected murderer's hide-out contains some of Tony's best writing.
