A Bright Ray of Darkness
A young actor whose marriage has collapsed finds his way back through a production of Henry IV, in Ethan Hawke's third novel.
The narrator of Ethan Hawke’s third novel is a young actor in torment after the collapse of his marriage, clumsily and sometimes hilariously trying to manage the wreckage with whiskey and sex. What saves him is the theater, and the challenge of playing Hotspur in a production of Henry IV. Published in 2021, the novel drew directly on Hawke’s own experience.
