Nico
Songs They Never Play on the Radio
Touring Europe with Nico in her heroin years, by the keyboard player who was there.
James Young played keyboards in Nico’s touring band through the 1980s, the years of heroin, cheap hotels and half-empty European venues long after the Velvet Underground. His account is bleakly funny and entirely without reverence, which is why it has outlasted more respectful books about her. Nico comes across as difficult, unsentimental and frequently very good company.

I can picture Nico getting to the last page and stubbing out a cigarette on the cover.
