A Navajo forensic photographer sees the dead in her crime-scene images, and they want something.
Rita Todacheene photographs crime scenes for the Albuquerque police and can see the dead who are still standing at them, which the department does not know and her Navajo family regards as a dangerous inheritance. Emerson, a Navajo filmmaker, alternates the present-day case with Rita’s childhood on the reservation, and the ghosts are a good deal less unsettling than the living.
