Anthony Lane has reviewed films for The New Yorker since 1993, and this collection gathers the first decade of it, along with essays on books and a set of profiles. The reviews of bad films are the famous ones and deserve to be, but the range is wider than the reputation suggests, taking in Buster Keaton, Nabokov and the Bond franchise with equal seriousness. The title is the joke; the prose is not.
