Tayari Jones is an American novelist and academic best known for An American Marriage, in which a newlywed couple’s life is broken apart when the husband is wrongfully convicted. It was an Oprah’s Book Club selection and won the Women’s Prize for Fiction. A graduate of Spelman College and the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, she teaches at Emory University, and her subject is how institutions reach into private life and rearrange it.
