Jane Hamilton

Jane Hamilton is an American novelist who lives and writes on an apple orchard in Wisconsin. Her first novel, The Book of Ruth, won the PEN/Hemingway Award, and A Map of the World, about a school nurse accused after a child drowns in her care, was chosen for Oprah’s Book Club. Hamilton writes about rural Midwestern lives placed under sudden public scrutiny, and about how quickly a small community can turn on one of its own.
