David Epstein

David Epstein is an American journalist who writes about performance, expertise and how people actually learn. His 2019 book Range: Why Generalists Triumph in a Specialized World argued that breadth and late specialisation beat early hyper-focus, and became a number one New York Times bestseller. The Sports Gene and Inside the Box sit either side of it. A former investigative reporter at ProPublica and senior writer at Sports Illustrated, Epstein reads across disciplines for a living, which is more or less the thesis of his own work.
