The Earth Transformed: An Untold History
Climate as the driver of human history, across an enormous span and a great deal of evidence.
Peter Frankopan runs from prehistory to the present, arguing that environmental shifts have shaped empires, migrations and collapses far more than conventional histories allow. It is long, richly informative and well written, though it never quite settles into a single organising thesis to hold the material together.

Peter Frankopan, The Earth Transformed: An Untold History. Long, full of information, and well written, but somehow lacks a central organizing thesis to hold it all together.
