Kathmandu
A city book about Kathmandu, written by someone who stayed long enough to stop being a visitor.
Thomas Bell lived in Nepal for years and writes the capital through its history, politics, earthquakes and the civil war, moving between the streets and the archive. There ought to be more books about single cities and fewer about whole countries, and this is among the best of them.

Thomas Bell, Kathmandu. There should be more books about individual cities, and this is one of them, one of the best in fact.
