Douglas Porch covers France at war from 1942 to 1945: the competing resistance networks, their relations with London and Washington, the fighting, and the score-settling that followed. It is long and granular to a degree that will defeat casual readers, and it is a major work for anyone who actually wants the period.

Douglas Porch, Resistance and Liberation, France at War 1942-1945. Too detailed for my purposes, so I stopped reading it. But this volume seems to be a major historical achievement, and a must read for at least some subset of humans.
