Neurologist & Psychiatrist
Viktor E. Frankl was an Austrian neurologist and psychiatrist who survived Auschwitz and three other camps, and who built logotherapy around the idea that the primary human drive is to find meaning rather than pleasure or power. Man’s Search for Meaning, written in nine days after his release, pairs an account of the camps with the therapy he drew from them. He continued practising and lecturing into his nineties.
