Anbruch der Neuen Zeit: Das Dramatische 16. Jahrhundert

Marina Munkler

Reformation, printing, the price revolution and the Ottoman frontier, analysed from a Central European vantage point rather than the usual Atlantic one.

Munkler gives an analytical history of a century that set the stage for most of what followed, taking in the Reformation, printing, the price revolution and the Ottoman frontier. The centre of gravity is Central European rather than Atlantic, and that shift changes which developments end up looking decisive and which look incidental.

An excellent analytical overview of the 16th century, which of course is what set the stage for so much of what was to follow. Not surprisingly, has more of a Central European emphasis than many Anglo works on the same period.
