Jim Lee drew X-Men #1 in 1991, still the best-selling single comic issue ever printed, then left Marvel to co-found Image Comics and assert that artists should own what they make. He later sold his WildStorm studio to DC, where he is now President and Chief Creative Officer.
His run on Batman: Hush with Jeph Loeb remains one of the most widely read Batman stories, and his style — dense linework, heavy detail, dramatic anatomy — shaped how superhero comics looked for a generation.
