Author
Scott Ritter
Former UN weapons inspector and author
Scott Ritter served as a US Marine Corps intelligence officer and then as a United Nations weapons inspector in Iraq from 1991 to 1998, latterly as one of UNSCOM’s most senior figures. He resigned publicly in protest at what he described as political interference in the inspections.
In the run-up to the 2003 invasion he argued repeatedly that Iraq retained no significant weapons of mass destruction programme, a position widely dismissed at the time and borne out afterwards. He has written on Iraq, Iran and Russia since, drawing on the inspection years for most of it.
