Francesca Albanese is an Italian international lawyer and, since 2022, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories. She previously worked for UNRWA and has taught refugee law, and her scholarship predates the mandate that made her a public figure.
Palestinian Refugees in International Law, written with Lex Takkenberg, is the standard reference on the legal status of the world’s longest-running refugee population, and it is a technical work rather than an advocacy one.
