Malala Yousafzai

Education activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate

Malala Yousafzai was fifteen when a gunman boarded her school bus in Pakistan’s Swat Valley and shot her for campaigning to let girls attend school. She survived, finished her education in Britain, and in 2014 became the youngest person ever to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.

I Am Malala is her account of that childhood and the campaign that preceded the attack. Her later books turn outward, to displaced girls in refugee camps and to the ordinary business of growing up under a symbol that arrived before she was old enough to choose it.
