How Roland Rolls

Jim Carrey · 2013

A wave afraid of breaking on the shore learns he was never only a wave, in Carrey's picture book about impermanence.

Carrey’s picture book follows Roland, a wave who is frightened of the moment he will break on the shore, until he works out that he was never only a wave. Written in Carrey’s looping, playful voice and illustrated by Rob Nason, it is a children’s book carrying a fairly direct piece of philosophy about impermanence and belonging to something larger. Aimed at young readers, though the idea underneath is squarely the one Carrey talks about as an adult.
