A Memoir of My People
The Waorani leader who won a landmark case against oil drilling, on growing up in the Amazon and organising against it.
Nenquimo grew up Waorani in the Ecuadorian Amazon, was taken into an evangelical mission school as a girl, and later led the legal action that protected half a million acres of rainforest from oil drilling. Written with her husband Mitch Anderson, the memoir moves between childhood, conversion, disillusion and organising, and is unsparing about missionaries and extraction alike. A first-hand account from inside a fight usually reported from outside.
