Sankofa

Anna, mixed race and middle aged in London, finds her late mother’s diaries and learns that the father she never knew went home to West Africa and became its president, and possibly its dictator. She goes to find him. Onuzo is funny and unsentimental about a woman who has spent a lifetime being not quite English, and refuses to resolve whether the man she meets is a monster or simply old.
