A Colombian family is split across two countries by an expired visa: some in Bogota, some undocumented in the United States, and a teenage daughter sent to a reform school. Engel moves between them in short, compressed chapters, weaving in Andean myth, and refuses the tidy resolution the situation invites. Under two hundred pages and unusually good on how immigration policy becomes a permanent condition of family life.
