Outlawed

In an 1894 America reshaped by plague, a woman who does not conceive within a year of marriage is suspected of witchcraft. Ada, a midwife’s daughter, flees a hanging and finds the Hole in the Wall Gang, a band of outlaws made up of women and outcasts led by a preacher with a plan. North writes a genuine western with the genre’s furniture intact, and uses it to ask what happens to people a society decides are useless.
