How I Became Putin's No. 1 Enemy

Bill Browder · 2015

Bill Browder’s memoir of investing in post-Soviet Russia, the murder of his lawyer Sergei Magnitsky, and his fight for justice.

Bill Browder went to Moscow in the 1990s and built the largest foreign investment fund in Russia by buying undervalued shares and exposing the oligarchs looting them. The strategy made him rich, then made him a target. After his expulsion, his lawyer Sergei Magnitsky uncovered a massive tax fraud by officials, was imprisoned, and died in custody. Browder’s campaign for justice produced the Magnitsky Act, sanctions legislation now adopted across the West. The book is part financial thriller, part political memoir, and entirely personal.
