Dvoretsky’s Endgame Manual

Mark Dvoretsky · 2003

The modern classic of endgame study, rigorous training material trusted by generations of masters and serious students of chess.

Mark Dvoretsky was widely regarded as the strongest chess trainer of his era, and this is his masterwork. The manual builds endgame understanding from precisely chosen positions, with the essential knowledge marked in blue for memorization and the rest offered as advanced study. Generations of grandmasters have worked through its exercises. It is demanding, honest about the effort required, and the closest thing chess has to a definitive textbook on the phase of the game where technique decides everything.

An endgame book should be more about having well-structured reference for continuous study based on level. For some of my @masterclass examples I used the endgame book by Dvoretsky. More basic material in Lamprecht/Muller and Nunn.
