The Trespasser
A detective on the Murder Squad faces sabotage from her own colleagues while she works a routine-looking case.
Antoinette Conway’s time on the Murder Squad is nothing like she dreamed. Her partner Stephen Moran is the one colleague glad she is there, and the rest of her working life is thankless cases, vicious pranks and harassment. Their new case looks like a by-the-numbers lovers’ quarrel, but she is close to the breaking point. Tana French’s 2016 novel introduced Jeff VanderMeer to her fiction, and he went on to read all of it.

Jeff VanderMeer
The combination of a fascinating case, a deep dive into the history of the narrator's colleagues, and the fraught relationship she has with her partner create something special. I've now read all of French's novels and recommend everything she's written.
