On Lighthouses
Jazmina Barrera's essays on lighthouses, translated by Christina MacSweeney for Two Lines Press.
Writing from a dim New York apartment, Barrera tours her lighthouses, beginning with the engineer grandfather of Robert Louis Stevenson, who lit the Scottish coast. She follows lighthouses from the Spanish coast to Oregon and through the work of Virginia Woolf, Edgar Allan Poe and Ingmar Bergman. Trying to collect them by describing them, she starts to question writing and collecting. The book was chosen for the Indie Next list.
