Abyss is the English edition of Pilar Quintana’s Los abismos, which won the Premio Alfaguara de Novela in 2021. Lisa Dillman’s translation was longlisted for the National Book Award for Translated Literature in 2023, and World Editions published it that year at 168 pages. Quintana says the jungle inside the apartment in her book comes from real life in Cali, where many people fill their homes with plants.
