Ryszard Kapuściński
A Life
A biography of the celebrated Polish reporter that asks how far his vivid accounts of Africa and Latin America blurred fact and fiction.
Ryszard Kapuściński, the Polish journalist behind The Emperor and The Shadow of the Sun, reported on 27 revolutions and coups between 1956 and 1981 and was often spoken of as a candidate for the Nobel Prize. In this biography, first published in Poland in 2010 and in English in 2012, the journalist Artur Domosławski, a fellow admirer, examines the life behind the legend, including how freely Kapuściński mixed reportage with invention.

Kapuscinski has become a hero of mine for the breadth of his travels, the power of his descriptive writing, and his insight into the human condition.
