Around the World in Eighty Days
Michael Palin's account of retracing Phileas Fogg's journey around the world in 80 days in 1988, without once boarding a plane.
In 1988 Michael Palin set out to follow the route of Jules Verne’s Phileas Fogg around the world in 80 days, traveling only by land and sea. This book, written alongside the BBC series, records the trains, dhows, container ships and chance encounters of the trip, which he finished with little time to spare. It was the first of the journeys that turned the former Monty Python performer into one of Britain’s best-loved travel writers.
