A Jack Reacher Novel
A sniper kills five people in a small Indiana city, and the accused man asks the police for one person by name: Jack Reacher.
The ninth Jack Reacher novel, published in 2005, opens with a sniper killing five people in a city in Indiana. The evidence against a former army sniper, James Barr, looks overwhelming, but instead of confessing he asks the police to find Jack Reacher. Reacher, who once investigated Barr in the army, arrives expecting to help bury him and begins to suspect a setup. The novel was the basis of the 2012 film Jack Reacher, starring Tom Cruise.
