Britt-Marie Was Here
Leaving her marriage at 63, a fussy, lonely woman takes a job in a struggling town and ends up coaching its children's soccer team.
Britt-Marie first appeared in My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She’s Sorry. In this novel, published in Swedish in 2014 and in English in 2016, she leaves her unfaithful husband and takes a temporary job at a recreation center in Borg, a small town hit hard by the financial crisis. Fastidious and socially awkward, she finds herself coaching the local children’s soccer team, and discovers that she is needed. It was adapted into a Swedish film.
