The End of the Long Summer
Civilization grew up in an unusually calm climate. That era is ending, and we must adapt.
Dianne Dumanoski, an environmental journalist, argues that human civilization grew up in an unusually stable climate that is now coming to an end. Drawing on the earth sciences, she shows how human activity has pushed the planet toward abrupt and unpredictable change, and she argues that we must give up the idea of controlling nature and build resilience instead.

The End of the Long Summer is a superb book that puts both climate change and other environmental issues into a long-term perspective. A lot of it is about scientists and the way they have conceptualised the relationship between humans and nature. This book forces us to rethink the idea that we can control nature.
