False Self
The rise and fall of Masud Khan, a brilliant psychoanalyst who could not face the truth about himself.
Linda Hopkins’s biography of Masud Khan, the Pakistani-born psychoanalyst who became a glamorous figure in London in the 1960s and 1970s. Khan was a close collaborator of D. W. Winnicott and a gifted writer, but his drinking and his conduct with patients ended with his expulsion from the British Psychoanalytical Society. Hopkins draws on his diaries and on interviews with former patients and colleagues.
