Pink Brain, Blue Brain

Lise Eliot

A neuroscientist argues that small brain differences between boys and girls grow large through upbringing, and shows how to narrow them.

Lise Eliot, a neuroscientist, reviews the research on sex differences in children’s brains. She finds that boys and girls start out with small differences, and that these grow into much larger gaps in skills and behaviour because of how children are raised and what they practise. The book explains neuroplasticity for general readers and suggests how parents and teachers can keep the gaps from widening.

That book was transformative for me. Lise looked through every study on gender and brain research and broke them down for the general reader. Science was not my forte but the book laid out neuroscience in such a clear way that I found it easy to understand and even entertaining to read.
