Critique of Pure Reason

Kant’s attempt to settle whether metaphysics is possible at all. Hume had shown that experience alone cannot justify claims about cause, substance or the self. Kant’s answer is that the mind supplies the forms, space, time and the categories, that make experience coherent in the first place. We can know appearances, never things as they are in themselves. Dense, forbidding, and the hinge on which modern philosophy turns.
