The Peregrine

For ten years J. A. Baker followed the peregrines that wintered on the Essex coast, keeping field journals he later distilled into barely a hundred pages. The result is a seasonal record of one man hunting the hunters, written as the birds were collapsing under agricultural pesticides, and steadily shedding its narrator’s attachment to being human at all.
